Improved Clinch Knot

The improved clinch knot may well be the knot most favored by American anglers— probably because it is easily tied, even with cold fingers, and consistently holds to about 90 percent of the line test. Here are the steps for tying it.

Step 1. Run line through eye of swivel or hook Make five turns (some anglers use six) around main line with tag end. Thread standing end through eye loop, then through main loop. Tighten slowly by pulling on main line and swivel. Do not forget to wet the line.
