Pete, Without knowing the nomenclature of your specific engine, ie. model year etc.. I would suggest inspecting the overall condition of the cooling system, thermostat, impeller, internal water passage tube etc. You might also verify that you are running the proper fuel to oil ratio, 50 to1, proper wide open throttle RPM" maybe too much prop pitch" "dogging the engine" also the power head may need de-carboned. as you can see there are many things........ I would first replace the impeller and thermostat and go from there.....
