Lake Level: Water Temperature: Lake Level: Water Temperature: Lake Elevation at Normal Pool : 600.20 Temperature: lower 40sOutflow: 2040 cfs Level: 5.00 feet high Report by Satterfield Guide Service With the releasing for winter pool fishing below the spillway should be excellent
throughout the winter. The best catch this week are crappie and white bass, although all the species are active with the water temperature cooling down into the 40 degree area.......... Crappie: The crappie fishing is excellent and have been found anywhere from 15 - 30 feet on the points, drop offs, edges of the sand bars at the river bends using a tube jig rigged with 1/8 oz lead head. Lake limits of crappie, a lot of 11 inch slabs have been being caught daily by finding these fish on your locator, casting from the deep toward the points, letting your bait hit the bottom and then reel in slow - don't drag the bottom - keep your line tight and now it is important to keep your eye on your line and every now and then just stop and let your bait suspend above any brush or stumps you will feel, when you see your line jump, set that hook - they are biting! Let the wind determine where you are going to fish, GET OUT OF THE WIND! On Lake Shelbyville with lots of high clay banks there is always a bank that is out of the wind. These crappie are big and worth coming out for! Don't stay in one place too long, the key is to keep on moving till you find them. Don't set on a school of small fish, wasting your time......move till you find a school of big one's and you'll catch them just as fast as you will the smaller one's. Two people could catch a limit of crappie in a couple 2-3 hours, and if you want a lot of meat to go home with finish up looking for white bass.White Bass: your best bet is to fish the wind blown sand bars on the main lake for these white bass! Fish these area's with a two jig rig. Normally we throw a 1/4 ounce but with the water temp in the lower 40's you're better off to drop down to 1/8 ounce lead head with 3 inch twister tails or shad bodies. Any color will do! Also catch these fish by watching for seagulls they can tell you where white bass activity is happening. You may pick up walleye fishing for white bass, but if you are strictly looking for walleye, largemouth bass or muskie, throw crank baits and rattle traps where the sand bars meet the drop off's and also main lake and secondary points. Don't forget to gear up with warm clothing and get out there and enjoy this prime
fishing time of the year! Seriously think about taking a friend, it's dangerous to fish
out on the cold water by yourself.
