The lake temperature is FROZE with approx. 10 inches of ice - safe ice but use caution because they are releasing the water for winter pool and this creates under currents.. With the releasing for winter pool fishing below the spillway should be excellent throughout the winter. ICE FISHING NOW ON LAKE SHELBYVILLE IS RED HOT Lots of fish are being caught and.... The best catch is crappie and blue gill although all species could be caught - these will be your easiest. For crappie and blue gill your best bet is mid lake North or in the backs of the large creeks and coves around standing timber or lay down trees. For crappie tube jigs 1/16 or 1/8 oz. any color and not necesssary to tip with any live bait at all will work best. The key to success is finding the right depth these fish are feeding at.Many a times in the winter these fish suspend in deep water from 2 foot to the bottom. So.... you always want to try adjusting your depth until you catch your first fish and then keeping that depth you may catch your limit! Just like any other time do not settle for little fish, move till you find schools of big ones.... For bluegill the rip rap around bridges, marinas and boat ramps are your best bet. Ice jigs tipped with wax worms will keep you so busy that you can't watch two poles!
