Fall weather – two or three days of nice 60’s and 70’s and then a northern front with temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s, and then back to a few days in the 60’s, it is like a bouncing ball. Lake temperature is down to 68.5, which is 2 to 4 degrees down from last week. What we need is a week or two of stable weather to turn the fall bite on. Lake level is at 646.58, almost 8 feet down from normal pool, which isn’t too bad. The thermocline remains at 40 feet, and there is really no temperature break from the surface to 40 feet, so the game fish can be and are somewhere from the bank to 40 feet of water.
Crappie returned to the brush piles for a few days this week and were feeding on crappie minnows at 23 to 24 feet of water. Once the cold front pushed in they left the crappie cribs and moved toward deeper water in front of the cribs. Crappie minnows will still catch a few but the bite has slowed down.
Largemouth bass continue to cruise in the creeks and pockets making it difficult to pin point a pattern. One day you can find them on the banks with Zara Spooks or buzz baits and the next day they are gone and you can get a few to bite jigs off secondary points or in the brush piles. As stated earlier we need some stable weather to set a fall pattern.
Smallmouth bass are holding in 36 to 40 feet of water off pea rock banks and transition banks. Small smallies are up on the points and the keeper smallies are in the deeper water. Best baits are Spider Jigs, football jigs and Carolina rigs with baby brush hogs. On sunny calm days try a drop shot rig with 4" finesse worms or other drop shot baits like beaver tails or Zoom meat heads.
Kentucky bass have dropped into deeper water with the shad over the weekend. The shad will make a move into the cuts and pockets to feed on plankton and the Kentuckys will follow. Meanwhile look for balls of shad at the entrance of the cuts or pockets and vertically drop a spoon or drop shot down to the Kentuckys under the shad.
Walleye are still out around the thermocline and are being caught with lead core line pulling Hot’N Tots, Wally Divers, Bill Norman Deep Little N’s, Reef Runners and Glass Shad. Some walleye have already started to move to the banks and points with the weather change. A few were caught this week by bass anglers on spinner baits and crankbaits. It might be time to prowl the banks with Shad Raps and Lucky Craft Pointer DD’s in the mornings and late afternoons.
LAKE RATING: Rating for the lake is fair to poor until the weather stabilizes.
Fishing for trout on the White River has been good on Berkley Power Eggs in yellow and white and pink. With generation the Buoyant Spoons, Super Dupers, Countdowns and Blue Fox are the bait of choice. The fly fishermen did well on olive Woolly Bugger, olive scud, Zebra Midges and San Juan worms. The Brown trout are being caught on Flat Fish, Countdowns, nightcrawlers and Rogues.

THE REED AREA WILL BE CLOSED FOR ALL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING FISHING FOR MANAGED DEER HUNTS. THEY WILL TAKE PLACE OCTOBER 24TH-NOVEMBER 4TH, NOVEMBER 7TH-11TH AND NOVEMBER 14TH-18TH.
Cottontail Lake will be closed for physical renovation for the next couple of years. The lake has refilled and the stocking of small fish will occur this summer. After they reach a harvestable size the lake will reopen for fishing.
This will be the last weekly fishing report for the season. This report will be updated when trout are stocked on the area in November.

Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 655.92’. Truman Lake water elevation is 705.55’. Water temperature is 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 0 CFS through the gates.
Crappie:
Excellent! Colonel John Rackovan, long time friend of the family came down from Greenville, PA and teamed up Kenny Hale. Together they boated this nice stringer of crappie using minnows. Richard Curry and his son Ryan and J.J. continue to slay the crappie as evidenced in this photo of pie plate crappies. Without disclosing their secret spot try the Cole Camp Creek coves. Ryan said they caught 37 of their 40 crappies on minnows.Bass Largemouth: Good Mike and Tim caught several nice bass on rubber night crawlers fishing the transition zones from the flats to the deep channel. They also had good luck using a variety of buzz baits.
White Bass: Good Stacy and Stu caught some nice white bass and a large catfish while fishing the flats Saturday afternoon. The wipers and catfish all struck their "Glow In The Dark" minnows Stu swears by. He buys the glow in the dark minnows at the local Wal-Mart.
Catfish: Good. Matt McKinney caught a nice 16# blue cat on Liver over the weekend. 8-year-old Hanna Bond landed a nice blue cat off our docks Saturday morning. The two-pound fish had her squealing with joy so loudly I stopped what I was doing on the far end of the docks and came over to see what the ruckus was. She caught the catfish using night crawlers. Take a kid fishing and they will be hooked for life!
Remember a bad day fishing is better than a great day at work.

The better Crappie catches have been caught shallow near the bank. Look for cover, the more cover the better, log jams and fallen timber are good sites to dip a minnow into.

Mid Lake-Kimberling City Area
The cooler weather and drop in lake temperature has really helped the fishing pick up.
White bass are chasing shad in the morning, evening and on cloudy days. In early morning and late evening, bass are hitting War Eagle spinner baits in pockets just off the main lake where shore minnows are present. On windy days, bass can be taken on spinner baits off chunk rock banks where the wind is blowing in. Also try throwing a Zara Spook or Cordell Red fin on timbered points and bluff ends of a morning. As the day goes on, use a Carolina rigged centipede in watermelon red or a brown and purple football head jig on the main lake points and flats in about 30-40 feet of water. The fish are also hitting white jigging spoons on main lake bluff ends over deep tree tops that are in 45-55 feet of water. Also try drop shot rigs and 4 inch gray grub on 1/4 and 3/8 ounce heads 40-55 feet deep on main lake flat gravel points and bluff ends over timber.
Lower End-Damn
Area Early morning top water bite on timbered points on the main lake and secondary points. Zara spook seems to be working best. There is also an early morning spinner bait bite in cedar trees and gravel pockets just off the main lake. Drop shot and spoon fish are being caught in 45-55 feet deep on long flat main lake gravel points. Throw Football head jigs, brown and purple or green pumpkin ,on main lake gravel in 30-40 feet of water.
Upper End-James River
Work the main lake flats and points with Carolina rig and football head jigs in about 25-38 feet of water. Try throwing a white jigging spoon in 30-45 feet of water on the main lake flats and points around shad schools. Fish are also being caught on shallow running crank baits in the upper ends of the James and Flat Creek.
Bluegill Some of the bluegill are still shallow but allot of the bigger bluegill are on the main lake gravel flats and points in 25-35 feet deep. Crickets are best.
Crappie I've been catching some nice crappie while fishing for bass on bluff ends over deep tree tops 30-45 feet deep on a 1/2 ounce white spoon and gray grub on 1/4 ounce head. I think crappie fishing will improve as the water temperature cools down.
Lake Taneycomo Trout fishing is very good in the trophy area and also below Fall Creek dock. In the trophy area from Fall Creek to the damn, the trout size seems to be improving with the cooler weather. I'm catching some nice rainbows and a few browns on a small Rapala in the morning and also swimming a white 1/16 ounce jig. The trout in the trophy area will also take pink or green micro jigs under a float and a zebra midge has also been very good. Below the trophy are from Fall Creek down, the trout are biting very good on night crawlers or power baits. In the early morning you can catch them swimming a 1/16 ounce jig or little Cleo spoon.

Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 11/2/05
This morning is more like summer than fall. The wind hasn't picked up yet but the weatherman says it's going to. The wind has been just right for the white bass fishing this week, we have seen a lot of fish come in. The way it sounds it is supposed to hold through the weekend so lets hope the fish do the same.

The shallow bite is still going on. Spinner baits in the back ends of the coves has been working. Fish are running in 2' to 5' of water. Single spins seem to be working the best. There is a jig bite going on the secondary points in 4' to 8' of water, black and blue seems to be working the best. There are a few bass coming off the flat main lake flat points when fishing for whites. These fish are right on the banks.CRAPPIE:
Brush piles are the best of the best. The fish have started hitting jigs when fished in 20' over top the brush. Black and chartreuse has been the best color.WHITES:
The white bass fishing has really picked up this week. White Rooster Tails have been working the best. Rat L Traps and small shad bodies on a 1/4 oz. head have also been working. These fish are on the flat main lake points in a foot of water. Have seen some real nice whites, but no hybrids as of yet. You need to have the wind blowing in on the points.CATFISH:
No Report.This will be the last fishing report for the season as we will be closing the marina down for the winter. We will keep the campground open thru deer season. We will reopen March 1 2006.
